Air Quality Forecast

August 4 – August 8: High pressure over the region is currently maintaining the warmer temperatures the Central Coast has been experiencing. A robust marine layer generated in part by inland heating has settled itself over the coast and coastal adjacent areas. This marine layer should burn off by mid/late morning and will work to moderate temperatures at the coast. Temperatures will range from the mid-50s to the low-80s at the coast and low-60s to mid-100s inland. Despite elevated temperatures inland, ozone production will be at normal levels; therefore, ozone AQIs will remain GOOD.  20 mph wind speeds with 30 mph gusts in the Salinas Valley along with dry conditions could bring PM10 AQIs to MODERATE.  As high pressure remains over the region, atmospheric stagnation will promote the accumulation of PM2.5 (smoke) thus PM2.5 AQIs may become MODERATE.
